MOLMOL Car and RoRo – Going the extra mile to meet customer needs
MITSUI O.S.K. Lines (MOL), founded in 1884, is one of the world´s largest shipping companies. We operate more than 820 vessels from container ships to tankers and many types of specialised vessels including Pure Car Carriers (PCC) and Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC). Always in the forefront of the new developments in shipping, we launched the world´s first purpose-built car carrier vessel in 1965. Since then, we have continuously developed and improved the safety, performance and reliability of our Car Carrier Service to meet the requirements of our customers in a global market.

One of the largest fleet of car carriers
MOL operates one of the world´s largest fleet of car carriers, actually 89, some of which can carry up to 6,000 vehicles. Our PCTCs are designed to accommodate all types of vehicles and rolling equipment. The structure and design of these ships allows for efficient loading of large numbers of vehicles via external and internal ramp ways.

In addition MOL is entering the field of shipping non-rolling cargoes. For this we have a fleet of roll trailers, which allow us to carry non-rolling project and static cargoes.  Units up to 100 tonnes like stripped down rolling units, machinery and machine tools, mining equipment and boats can be carried.

Worldwide network of services
In step with the globalisation of automobile manufacturing, we have developed a worldwide route network.

  • 4 Continent Express Service in the Atlantic: South Africa/Europe/North America/ Mexico/South America
  • Baltic Sea Service: North Europe/Baltic Countries/Russia
  • Intra America Service: North America/Mexico/Central America/South America Service

To support all of our services we have a worldwide network of MOL offices with dedicated Car and RoRo staff.

Towards the goal of zero damage
MOL takes a pride in delivering all vehicles carried in the same condition and quality in which we receive them. Although exceptional bad weather and other circumstances can occasionally cause unavoidable problems, MOL has maintained an excellent record of close to zero damage, through a combination of education and supervision:

  • Experienced MOL Port Captains oversee vehicle handling operations at many ports around the world;
  • Regular damage prevention meetings review efforts to eliminate accidents, keep vehicles clean during transit and promote the awareness of the need for total quality of service;
  • We produce eye-catching posters, manuals and training videos to demonstrate correct handling procedures which are distributed of to the staff of all MOL-operated vessels and contractors handling vehicles in the MOL ports of call;
  • We carefully investigate every incident of cargo damage, distribute written reports to staff and take actions to prevent reoccurrence.

New Environmental Technology
The MOL Group is well aware of the environmental obligation of its business activities, and takes various steps to offer environment-friendly services. These include launching environment-friendly vessels; minimising the environmental burden of vessel operations; measures to combat global warming; efforts to conserve energy; measures to reduce waste, air pollution and soil contamination; recycling of resources, development and introduction of environment-friendly technologies; and many more. Also the company has formed the concept for its next-generation vessels, which will be technically practical in the near future, by building on and refining technologies it has already developed and adopted.
