DFDS Tor LineDFDS Autologistics is a result of how close co-operation with customers can result in a smoothly functioning service. The company has, for many years, cooperated with major car producers and, by being observant of their wishes and requirements for efficient and reliable transportation, DFDS Autologistics has been able to develop a general automotive service on all its routes, including storage and distribution.

Safe and reliable transportation with frequent sailings means that lead-time can be reduced. Delivery precision, a decisive factor in the supply chain, enables the customer to monitor stock turnover, which is an important factor for cost efficiency.

TDFDS Tor Linehe company’s objectives are to obtain cost reductions and service improvements in autologistics to the benefit of the customer by focusing on:

  • High frequency
  • Improved delivery
  • Reduced lead-time
  • Reduced stock and inventory
  • Improved traceability
  • Implementing joint initiatives
  • Producing a mutual distribution policy

The growth in DFDS
Autologistics has been underpinned by the delivery of six Ro-Ro newbuildings from Flensburg Shipyard. Each ship is capable of transporting approximately 500 cars on hanging decks and cars can be handled through side doors, especially made for this purpose. Part of the remaining Ro-Ro fleet also has hanging decks.

To further improve its service level, DFDS tor Line aims to own and operate its own port terminals in all major shipping hubs. One of its biggest facilities is located in Immingham, situated on the East Coast of the UK, where DFDS opened a new riverside facility last year.

The new facility offers a state-of-the-art terminal operation for Ro-Ro services including car handling and storage. It has been built to accommodate the continued expansion of activities at Immingham, developing opportunities to create new business in the deep-sea automotive trade, and offers feeder services within the DFDS European short-sea network, with more than 160 weekly departures.
