Regular RORO-services, efficient & fast
In the period 1997-2008 the combined export and import volumes of rolling stock in the Port of Antwerp have practically doubled, from 1,5 million metric tons to 3 million, equivalent to 1,126,000 vehicles. In the year 2009 figures went down because of the economic crisis, but Antwerp kept its market-share. The port combines a host of regular RORO-services with fast, efficient handling thanks to a highly skilled work-force. The dedicated RORO terminal capacity has expanded over the past years to over 245 hectares (606 acres), particularly at the left bank of the river Scheldt, in the Verrebroek- and the Vrasenedock.
Antwerp, located in the centre of Europe
Thanks to its central location, the private companies active in the port can provide fast, cost-effective connections throughout the whole of Europe. The port of Antwerp is linked to the hinterland by a dense multi-modal transport network, excellent road, rail and inland waterway connections.
Turntable for RORO-cargo
To complement vehicle traffic, machinery, heavy equipment, project cargo and other rolling stock, even containers and forest products are shipped on RORO-vessels. Incoming and outgoing traffic are fairly balanced in Antwerp.
Extensive range of value added services
Antwerp is the market leader in the export of second hand cars, particularly to Africa. It also acts as a short-sea hub for cars exported throughout Europe. The Port of Antwerp is one of the important players for the import of new factory cars, mainly from Japan and Korea, but also from the Mediterranean. In addition to the loading and unloading of the finished vehicles, the terminal operators offer an extensive range of value added services in their vehicle processing centres.
Little wonder Antwerp is the port of choice for a host of vehicle manufacturers and car dealers.
